I stopped on the way to work to fill up. Wind gusting like crazy. I was looking at the pump when a gust hit me causing the nozzle to come outta the tank and splash gas on the tank and up on the inside of the windshield. (8 in. smoked). Its been on the bike about 8 months.
I was going to ride back by the house and clean the bike before going on to work. As I pull outta the lot onto the street the sheild cracks on both sides where it meets the fairing, left side all the way up to the center. On the right, about 2" toward center. By the time I got home, about 2 minutes, a chunk completely came off the left side.
Now I ain't crying over a HD (hunner dollar) windshield, but was wondering if the gas reacted with the plastic causing it to get more brittle or something?
Wouldn't think it was just a coincidence. The strangest part of your post was when you said something about you were going to ride back home and wash the bike before going to work. You musta meant a part time job, because I can't remember ever seeing a firefighter wash his vehicles at home.
I'm inclined to think coincidence. It seems unlikely the gas would have made more of a differance than 10-20 hours of riding. So it might have broken then rather than a week or two later because you spilled gas on it, but it didn't break because you spilled gas on it.

Dang it Wecroft, I guess I still haven't learned my lesson about B.S.'n forum members, somebody's gonna call ya on it everytime.
Thing that made me laugh when it happened was I wanted to get home cause that's where my supper dooper micro cloth and spray shine was that I wanted to use so's I wouldn't scratch the shield gettin the gas off. Then "pop, crack".
