Harley-Davidson #1 logo
Can't correct something that is right. The bike used for the 141 foot fountain jump was a highly modified Triumph Bonneville T-120 that was supplied by then Triumph importer Johnson motors. I believe this was the only time he attempted a jump on a Triumph.
Early on I dont believe he jumped Harleys.......
I saw an interview with him where every time the Host asked him about "why Harleys?", or references to.....
Evil would kinda smile a little and break eye contact..... "Well that was the business part of it." he would say.
Only once did I hear him praise the Harley Ride......
It was on film of one of his big jumps, where he landed a little short.... Nose High, and his rear wheel caught the last vehicle, or the ramp... or something...... Was a nasty jolt to the Bike, but he rode it out !
Wasnt pretty, and he looked paniced..... but on inspection of the bike it showed the frame had broken.... two places IIRC .
Evil adressed the crowd and told them of the frame, and that Only a Harley coulda rode it off like that !
Anywyas...........
Thanks Crapshooter, I thouht I had seen something like that a few years ago on the History channel just wasn't sure of the fact.
Evel used Honds's at first, then Trumps early in his career. He also used one the first time on ABC/Wild World of Sports. He later used American Eagles, which he described as "junk." Evel, although my childhood hero and I have met several times was his "Own Man." He rode what was free. He did not become as famous until he signed with Harley, things took off from there. I am named after Roger Reiman who was the 1964 Grand National Champion and Three Time Daytona 200 Winner. He was killed at Daytona during practice for a BMW Battle of Legends race. He and his father Hank owned a Harley-Davidson dealership in Kewanee, Il (Reiman Harley-Davidson). It is now owned by Dennis Packee who was a lifelong friend of Roger's. Roger built Evel's Harley's for most of his career. I have several childhood stories and memories. The Number 1 logo was just designed by Willie G after Mert Lawill's regaining the Grand National Championship in 1969. the first time it was released was in dealer advertisements in May 1970. It was coincidence that the logo had nothing to do with Evel, but he used it to his advantage and made it famous. I have the History of that logo at home. When I get there I will give everyone the lowdown on what it stood for. I was more than 7 stars and 5 stripes.

Here's some more info. Harley never registered that Number 1 logo. When designing and about to release the Dark Custom number one logo, they registered the Number 1 logo with the desciption of the Dark Custom 1, then states something to the description of any combination of this logos using any color combination and or patterns. This coverd the logo back to 1970. That was filed the 7th month of 2003. Somene could have highjacked it.
