Issue: What is the fastest stock Harley and how does it compare to the speed of a sport bike?
Some users feel that the V-rod is faster than a 600cc sports bike, while others think the sports bike are faster. Users will break down the differences in the engine and give their opinion of which bikes are fast and why.

ADD? Short attention span? Couldn't read the whole post, where it said they replaced the frame and engine? You're obviously reading impaired or being deliberately obtuse. The fact remains, your original claim that the Buell has the best power-to-weight ratio "in the business" is a complete falsehood, which is easily proven with either facts or a healthy dose of common sense (which apparently isn't very common with you). Now you're trying to cloud the discussion about stock street bikes with magazine quotes about race-prepared bikes. I'm through trying to explain it to you. This is exactly why I chose NOT to be an elementary school teacher... I just don't have the patience to deal with immature minds and slow learners!

My first 2 bikes were V Twin sport bikes by Suzuki. Yes, their V Twins are fun as hell to ride and they sound more like cruisers than those inline 4 turd bikes. They are much faster than any stock Harley and weigh a lot less. I am actually considering buying a 2nd bike for these reasons, maybe a Buell.

Here are my numbers from my first time on a track.
1st off the line my 13in apes was moving from the torque.
2nd I was being pushed in the back of the seat.
13.498 1/4mile at 100.28 mph

The two were never designed with comparison in mind. Each bike was built for a specific pupose. It amazes me why people feel the need to try.My bikes have always been fast and were always built by me to satisfy only one person.First or last in a street brawl does not matter, just being there is what it is all about.

be careful! lol a guy at work has an old '82 Kawaski that we like to make fun of. It looks like a salvage yard special but it will spank our Harleys with ease.

Have any of you guys checked out the sport/touring Honda VFR I had the 2004 model which was an 800 with vtec so it ran 2 valves per cylinder for better torque til 7000 rpms or so then opened up to 4 valves they say it runs a mid to high 11 and I rode one from Boise Idaho to San Diego in a day and it was the most comfortable thing ever and fast The new one coming out is going to be a 1200 with the vtec ditched but that 800 was pretty rad. Harleys are made for being Harleys and crotch rockets do their thing but man that VFR was right in the middle

No doubt these small over the pond machines can outrun most Harleys. For me it makes no sense to compare the two.Harleys were never built to compete with these machines, although they can be built to run with them straight line. Some of us do on a regular basis. These big twins are all about bottom line torque. So many of the intown (rural roads) battles around here are over in a hurry just because of the off idle torque.Anything approaching top ending is absolute idiocy.True comparisons would be rice to rice or Harley to Harley, like comparing oranges to apples.

I have taken a stock Honda CBR600 up over 130 mph. It was trying to pul the front wheel most of the time. I backed off because it was fast enough for me. Show my a stock harley that can do that. Oh the last Harley that I rode with that could pull over 120 mph in stock trim was a V rod but it was no were near as quick as the CBR.

That's true. I love my Harley but also have had several KZ's. Just sold my 1976, have a 1980 in the garage now. A good friend has a 1975 Z1-900 bored out to 1200 that is just plain scary when you get on it. I know the modern water cooled bikes are faster but there's a difference in riding the old ones (thats what she said). It's like the difference in driving a brand new Vette and a 1969 big block Camaro. Vette will win, but to me the old Camaro would be much more exciting. No traction control.
