Dealer says he wants to "make things right"

Seems to me that letting a bike go out of the shop with a leaking gas tank pretty much voids all of the positive. NO excuse for that.

Lucky the gas that was leaking didn't burst into flame because of a screwed up gasket THEY installed wrong. (Have them explain that to an attourney as you could be laying in bed healing from skin grafts from your ***.)
I think you may have SAVED them money.
A Harley hat and a t-shirt...and a belt buckle should cover it? (LOL)

I guess you are saying that even after the long wait for the tank ended, it still took them an unreasonable period of time to complete the bike?
So as a service lift came open, instead of putting some other dude's bike on there that they could fix to completion and get him on the road, you thought they should put your bike on there for which they did not have all the parts, and start working on it, while everybody else's bike just sat there with all the parts needed sitting beside them?
The leaky gas tank is not a good thing ... ESPECIALLY if you're a smoker. But I've ridden plenty of bikes with gas on them. Plenty of times I've overfilled and not bothered to wipe things off that good. Dirt bikes especially when you had to mix the gas and oil. Then one time I didn't have all the parts for my RK dash after replacing the tank one time and I rode around a few days with gas seeping. Keep it away from an open flame and you're ok.
I edited this to say:
Actually I've been in your shoes before waiting on my 07 RK (the leaky one was an 03) and when I FINALLY got the bike back I was furious! It took so long. But in time I cooled down and realized my strong desire to get MY bike back overclouded my feelings and got me to overreact. There was an awful lot of stuff I was having done, including a 103" kit, wheels, pipes, etc. Just suggesting maybe the same could be applying to you.
That said, 3 weeks after all the parts came in does seem long, but not sure all that you had to have done, factoring in the vacation, maybe not THAT bad, depending on what all you had done.

Of course I did not wish for them to put my bike ahead of others in line. My main gripe was the lack of communication during those three weeks. Met with Service Manager and Service Writer, and situation resolved to everyone's satisfaction. As far as the gas leak, it was literally pouring down the tank onto the engine, exhaust etc. Scary.
