I guess I just don't get it. I went from a Heritage (very close to the Deluxe) to a Road King. I didn't notice hardly any difference in "room" between the two. They're both FL framed bikes. You can make either one of them feel exactly the same as far as riding position goes. At 6'-10" you're going to have to modify anything you get to fit. I'm only 6'-1" but have fairly long arms and legs, so I had to modify both bikes to be comfortable. Something made you like the Deluxe. I'd keep it and make it fit.

The Deluxe was designed for shorter people, and at 6'10" it certainly is too cramped for you. The Street Glide, Road King, or Ultra should be a better choice for you. The financial loss is a short term situation compared to the years of satisfaction you'll have a a bike that fits you better.

Wow, 6'10".

Have you looked at the Boss Hoss? How about a Jesse James custom? I know he built a steroid bike for Shaq once.

Not a fan of Boss Hoss or getting a expensive custom bike.

I have a friend who is 6' 3" and rides a Road King. He endured a 1200 sportster for about 5 years just to prove a point. He really thinks he is in "Hog Heaven" now.

Well, I guess it would be cheaper to lop off a couple feet from your legs, but then you'd be dragging your knuckles.

Ouch, that'll hurt the old knuckles..

Wow, at 6'10" if I was the salesman, I would have done everything I could to convince you out of the Deluxe. Great bike but way too low and forward for you. I'm 6' and I felt cramped on it.

The Deluxe sits lower and the seat sits about a half inch more forward than say, the Heritage. I would agree that you will have to modify any bike you get to make really fit you. I sat on the Deluxe when I was shopping for mine and when I sat on it, although it looked awesome it made me feel a bit too forward and much lower than my FLSTC. You're going to have to do some comparing between retrofitting what you have vs. buying another model and possibly retrofitting that one as well. If it comes down to money, retrofit the one that's cheaper. If it comes down to which bike you like (which is obviously the Deluxe), then retrofit the Deluxe. In the end you not only have ride it, you also have to look at it and both of these senses are important.

I think you would be a lot better off with a custom chopper.
