Primary Lube Thru Chain Insp Port?

Primary Lube Thru Chain Insp Port?
Why not refill primary lube thru the chain inspection port? Seems much more efficient than thru the clutch inspection hole!

6 of one, half dozen of the other, I suppose, most folks adjust the clutch when they change fluids??. Whatever is easier for ya, I guess. Don't really know if there is a standard for this stuff. I would think if you don't do alot of hole shots, your clutch adjustments would be ok, but I'm not an expert. If your not low on fluid, why do you need to fill thru the inspection cover? If you've got a slow leak, then no prob, imo

They even make a primary chain inspection cover with a filler hole/cap to make it even simpler...
The deal is, the service manual states that the primary compartment holds one quart of oil. Then it also shows the clutch inspection cover open and where the level of oil should ride on the bottom of the clutch cluster. I know when I use only one quart, the level is below where the manual states it should be so I have to add a little more. I filled mine with just one quart this last time just to see if there is any difference, so far after about 500 miles I've noticed no difference.

If you follow the service manual for my '05 FLSTN, to change primary lubricant (every 5K miles) you are directed to remove the clutch inspection cover and pour the oil in thru that opening. Seems a lot more logical to not remove the clutch inspection cover unless you need to adjust the clutch -- especially since (again, if you follow the manual) you're gonna pull the chain inspection cover also every 5K to check/adjust the chain.
