Dealer says I need new ECM $1084.00 WHAT!

I would like your opinion on somthing. I brought a 2005 fxdlI in late oct 2010. I put about 300 miles on the bike and put it way for the season, battery was taken out in novereber. Around January I put the battery in and started it and the check engine light came on and was popping and idleing really rough. The codes PO 113, PO118, PO123. Called the dealer they said, "these thing hate the cold weather wait until it warms up a little and try it again. I did that same thing, Runs horrible. After a week and a half at the dealer I call them! and they tell me that the ECM is bad it will cost $1084.00 to replace.
I guess the reason why they have not gotton back to me is that they were trying to decide what to do in regards to this problem. So that right there is telling me that they know they should fix it, but know they say they can do nothing.....

I had saved that info when I ran across it a few years ago.
Vehicle is designed and built so as to conform at the time of sale with applicable regulations of the U.S. Federal Environmental Protection Agency at the time of manufacture and that it is free from defects in materials and workmanship which cause his/her motorcycle not to meet U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Standards within 5 years or 18,641 miles (or 30,000 kilometers) whichever occurs first.
Vehicles under 5 year – 18,641 Miles (30,000 KM) with 49 States Original Equipment Components:
1. Air cleaner and backplate
2. Air cleaner filter (only if due to malfunction of related system that affected the performance of this part)
3. Ignition system – coil, sensor, module, spark plugs (“out of the box”), plug wires
4. Carburetor
5. Intake manifold and seals
6. Fuel injection systems:
Vehicles under 5 year – 18,641 Miles (30,000 KM) with California Original Equipment Components:
– Cam position sensor
– Induction Module
– Cylinder head temperature sensor
– Electronic Control Module (ECM)
– Barometric sensor
– Idle Speed Control Actuator (ISC)
– Crank position sensor
– Engine coolant temperature sensor
– Engine temperature sensor
– Oxygen sensor
– Throttle position sensor
– Fuel Injectors
– Intake air temperature sensor
– Voes switch
– Wiring harness of EFI module
– Idle Air Controller (IAC)
– Fuel module
– Check valve
– Fuel pump (for leaks and/or high and low pressure failures)
Unless yours is California equipped, looks like you may have missed out.

Ive watched a Master tech and an old shop forman replace an ECM, go through the whole password learn proccess and take the new ECM right back off more time than I could count.
99.9999999999% of the time it IS NOT the ECM.
If you go through the ED manual flow charts or even the Digital Tech and get led to "replace ecm" YOU did something wrong.
Actual ECM failure is as rare as a living jackalope.
Theres a bad connection or piece of wire someplace. Start with the connections, make sure thier clean and solid. Get a wiring diagram and an ohm meter and start checking wires for continuity from end to end and non ground wires to ground, next check sensors, there are specs in the ED manual!

You guys have given me some great advise. Having a bad ECM just doesn't make any sense. Like I said the bike starts and runs if the ECM is bad the dealer fried it not me. I have not heard a thing from the dealer since thursday when I called them. The gm says
he want to help me but has to wait until his boss comes back from vacation. Thanks again
