Perhaps the next stage will be chromed fenders and tank with blacked out motor, pipes, bars, etc.

I've seen completely chromed bikes and I don't think it's all that great. I've also seen bikes that have too much blackened out. There needs to be some contrast.

You may have been joking, but a RKC in the new models section of the Harley website has chromed fenders. Nothing new under the sun. I did the bike in the photo in the winter of 1975. I used Kal Gard gunkote on the cases barrels, heads and all aluminum covers. You can't see them but the push rod tubes are gold plated. I had a girlfriend working in a sunglasses factory. I've had a few bikes in other colors and even flamed out my '49, but I'll always have a black one around.

i believe in the K.I.S. (keep it simple)principle.
I like that phrase as well

I had an 04 Wide Glide with every piece of chrome I could get on it. Then I got stationed in South Carolina and couldn't keep it clean and started have stuff rust so I said screw all this polishing and traded that baby in on a night train. So for me black is the new chrome

I just talked with someone that bought a new Harley. The first bike gathering he attended, there were 1/2 dozen just like his. He knew then he had to do something to make it look different.

I think with the Black-out scoots, there is only so many variables and possibilities. Back when you would see maybe a completely Blacked out scoot once a week or so but now is 2 or 3 per day just about everywhere you go.

Different strokes for different folks, goes with out saying, but personally I like Black bikes with a reasonable amount of chrome, the flat black color looks like its primed and you can't decide which color to paint it.

Although engine parts can look nice flat.

Having had House of Color a few miles down the road and a fairly decent garage paint booth and equipt I usually ended up painting what ever I owned.

Old school here, slightly darkened Cobalt blue with maybe gray and lighter blue ghost flames, covered by thinned with clear, blue till the flames are almost gone
Or the darker reds like Brandywine with a bit of mini flakes works for me.

If you like it, that's what counts.

All you folks talking about chrome being tough to clean.
Sig pic was from the day I picked her up.That was three years ago and I haven't washed it yet.
Sure I've cleaned it,but from top to bottom it only takes about 4 hrs.
Simple Green and Pledge is all it takes.
I've spent way more time cleaning and polishing the car and truck then I do on the Harley and I still get compliments every time I ride it.
