I posted on another thread earlier tonight about bikes sitting on the showroom floor. Look at the threads on the different makes of bikes.

Touring-503 Topics

Softails-403

Sportster-346

Dyna-195

Vrods-17

Here is how it is at my dealer

Touring-Ultras-Sold out, Classics-1 left, Standards-1, Roadkings-3

Softails-A couple fatboys, no herigages, 1 deluxe

Sportsters-Several

Dyna's-1 Wideglide

Vrods-8

It seems to me that the Vrod is not selling up to Willie G's expectations. Needless to say it is a well designed bike and is a blast to ride but if they are going after the young crotch rocket crowd then 17,000-21,000 isn't going to cut it.

You can sell a $21000.00 Ultra or a $30,000 Screamin Eagle because the people who want and ride them are usually fairly well to do. Plus they don't make a blue million Screamin Eagles.

Just my 2 cents!

Terry

Don't know if this will go through having problems sending posts but I just talked to the Harley guy here and he said anyone buying a V-Rod is getting a 2500 dollar discount on a 04 V-Rod model(Thats from overseas sales). Seems they can't sell them. Terry had problems sending posts. Sent you an email asking about it since I had your email. Not sure if you got it.

My dealer told me something very similar. All the baggers sold fast this year...

THis is how crazy some people think. I met this guy at LaidLaws HD in Rosemead Ca. last month. He has three bikes total. He first got a 883 sportster. The guys he road with gave him a hard time for being left behind on the freeway. They told him to get rid of that "Girls" bike. So he bought a VROD. Yes, He was now ahead of everone but then they gave him greif about the VROD not being a real HD so then he goes out and buys a Road Glide. I thought to myself maybe it's time for you to get some new riding partners.

Or do what you want for you and quit trying to please those around you.

Does sound like he needs new "friends" or he needs to be a little less sensative.

Yeah, it definitely looks like he needs to get some confidence in himself and stop worrying about what people think about him or his bike. Getting left behind on a Sporty? Musta been doing something wrong.

One of the reasons there's very few threads on the VR on most Harley boards is that there are dedicated VR sites.

The best is V-rodforums.com. There are 6000 members, and at last count 21,000 threads on the VR. A recent poll on the Board showed that 50%+ of the members never owned a Harley before, and bought a HD because of the VR. Last count is that 50K VR's have been sold and it's the #1 HD model in Europe.

One of the reasons the members gravitated there is that early on, VR owners didn't feel welcome on "traditional" HD sites. Lots of discussion about whether the VR was "a real Harley", whether air was better than liquid cooling, and so forth rather than useful info. Most of that attitude is old news on the general HD boards at this point, but it drove the VR owners to form their own communities.

Had my '02 for over a two years now and still get a kick out of it. BTW, the comment about the guy who seems to be buying a ride to impress his friends was a hoot. Buy what you like and ride it like ya stole it...

Cheers--
