Watched American Chopper Monday night where they built the bike for WENDY's and what made me laugh the most is when the spokes person for Wendy's said OCC know how to make Choppers just after we watched 'Codie' stand on a battery trying to force it into the battery box held by 'Paul Jnr' is this called an interference fit ?
If thats class motorcycle engineering I would hate to see a botch job !
I have a friend who purchased an OCC chopper. One month into riding and the tranny went out. OCC sold the chopper "as is" with no warranty. My friend was told that he would have to go to the tranny manufacturer for repair/replacement. Long story short, since OCC is not considered a factory bike, but a custom build, the tranny manufacturer would not repair/replace the tranny. Could have been an issue with improper gearing, matching of engine to transmition, installation, alingment, etc...
I have watched just about every episode of OCC and can't believe some of the Mickey Mouse crap they pull to get things to fit together. For the price paid for an OCC bike, they should fly a tech out to your home and fix the bike on site!
Warrant is just another form of insurance... that whether you realize or not ... YOU pay for. For the amount that they get for these bikes, you'd think warranty would be a part of the parcel. Usually, when you buy anything that has warranty coverage, a portion of price reflects that as insurance. That insurance premium is part of the original purchase price. If OCC wanted to get into the warranty end of the sale, they would add on thousands of dollars extra. Personally, I don't know why anyone would spend that amount of money on anything without some sort of guarantee it will run. When you buy something like that, you are just taking your chances...like a spin of the roulette wheel. Big money.... big gamble.

If you go to their site, you see what the build & sell is very different from the **** discovery Channel makes them build for TV. Their "production" bikes are little different from the Custom Chrome 'Kit Bikes' that every chopper shop in the county assembles & paints as their bread & butter. Except they cost 4 times as much.
I can't really blame Discovery however, people would become very bored if they just made 20 of the same bike every month on TV.
Those bikes are nice to look at. But I would never own one, they are all the same, chopper, fat tire, shiny, and hard to ride. Other than paint and theme, they are all the same. I liked that red bike the british built during one of the build offs.
I really wonder if they're bikes would be so popular if they hadn't come up with the TV show. Making a reality TV show out of your shop doesn't increase the quality of your product. It's all hype...not quality.

No, but it really raises the price tag. I looked at
their site and they have the 2 production bikes
listed. The yellow chopper is $40,000. I bet if
you gave $40k to a local builder, you get something
a lot nicer than what I saw on line.
You guys crack me up. What you see on TV is just that TV. Acted, planned made for great ratings. They make building a bike which they have done THOUSANDS of time seem like it is VERY hard to do for TV. Thats the idea. If every bike went off with no hitch they would have no ratings.
You cannot take what happens on the show as to how the shop operates.
