marks on heat shilds
#4
Swirl marks are usually caused by small gritty particles caught in a wash mitt. Swirls can be removed, if they aren't very deep. Try something like Blue Job chrome polish. Be careful, if you polish to much, you can go through the chrome. Under the chrome is a layer of nickle, it will appear to look gold in color.

Products like Blue Job or Semichrome remove surface rust and bluing, but you have to be careful. Chrome plating is very thin. As stated above, you can remove chrome if you're not careful with these (light abrasive) products. (Don't ask how I know.) I would use nothing more than a simple chrome polish.

Scratch 'em deeper...
Then have them coated with ceramic, paint 'em, or wrap the header pipes! Of course, you could just buy some new ones...
I believe the swirl marks on mine were caused by too many people staring at it for way too long!

If the swirls are bad enough to bother you there are couple of things you can do if light polishing won't get it done. Forget about them since you're eventually gonna get signs of normal wear and tear. Or replace the pipes. You didn't mention if you had full pipes or slip ons, but for half of that $280 you can get a set of Cycle Shack mufflers or something similar.

I've tried many products to try and get swirls and surface scratches out of chrome. In my experience, it can't be done. Chrome is not like paint. Usually the product does nothing. If you use a product that's really abrasive then you'll make it worse. Good luck...and let us know if you find something that actually works.
