drilled heat shields

Have you guys who have drilled your heat shields to look like machine gun foregrips experienced any problems with peeling or chipping around the holes? did you paint or chrome them after you drilled them? thanks.

I love that look and plan to drill mine as well. But regardless of whether others have Plated or Powered after drilling, if you don't you can certainly expect rust to appear on the raw metal edges. So in my case I'll drill them, then have them replated.

You'll have to paint or chrome them after the drilling or the holes will rust and then cause flaking around the holes.

I bought some used heat shields off ebay and drilled them, I love the look. I buffed up the chrome with some 400 grit wet sandpaper and painted them with flat black bbq paint. About 2 years now and had no need to touch up yet.
