From the HD Dealers meeting, there's usually a presentation like this every year.

thank you sir..............interesting new stuff to read. It won't be long before we will not be able to troubleshoot and repair our own bikes. I do suppose someone in the aftermarket will make the tools available. The BCM and modules in general have been around almost 15 years........about the time HD decided to implement fuel injection.

I wonder what is going to happen when people try to extend the wires for the switches on the handle bars on the softails which now use a can system with twisted pairs of wires if these are like the ones in a car they must have the same twists per inch and the same resistance in the wires as the original.

From what I read in the manual they went to a CAN or controller area network setup. More info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Controller_area_network. The system is very susceptible to changes in resistance and voltage drop. Also uses what is called a twisted pair of wires to carry the signals that must be twisted at the twists per inch as the original or can cause communication errors. I just had a car come to me from the body shop after an accident and the headlights would not work because they repaired a damaged wire and used the wrong gauge wire so the BCM saw a different resistance and thought the CAN-bus was down.
