In regards to when the ignition is on the lights are on, it depends how your switch is wired. My 90 has ignition on, then the next click is lights and ignition on. Kinda helps when you don't want to give up your position before you ride out. My bad, missed the "hit the kill switch". My mind was reading "didn't turn the switch off all the way"

And you might want to get into the habit of shutting it off with the key instead of the kill switch.

Normally I would say put a fan on the charger and let it charge. But recently heard a guy I knew burnt his house down when charging a golf card and the charger caught fire.

Never charge a gel battery with a constant rate charger. Always use a tender. It will get off while it charges (mine does) but will cool down once it's in "float" mode.

So I wake up in the lafter that after noon and head out to my bike to start her up and head into the ED for the night shift, only to find it stone cold dead. Do other people experience smiler issues with the battery tender overheating? And is it ok to keep using it if so?

Sorry if this sounds crazy, I am an ambien and 2 beers deep into my sleep. Hope all is well out there in motorcycle land.

I did exactly the same thing last week after a few beers, forgot to turn the key went out next day and battery was dead.

I jump started the bike, went out riding and battery has been fine since

A tender doesn't pack enough punch to charge a fully dis-charged battery, and may kill itself trying. You eed a real battery charger and possibly a new battery.
