how is it going from a honda shadow to a harley?
I went from a Shadow Spirit VT1100 to a Victory Cross Country Tour to a
HD Ultra Limited. The jump from the Spirit to the CCT was pretty large -- CCT was much
bigger and heavier than the Spirit. But, I got used to it very quickly. Going from the
CCT to the Ultra Limited was trivial, as they are almost identical in weight and
handling.

Has anyone ever noticed that when motorcycles come up in casual conversation, the person that doesn't know anything at all about them asks first,"DO YOU RIDE A HARLEY?"
Welp, yes, it's kinda like that.

RK4ME I think you just described 80 percent or better of the HDForum members. After all I don't know two many fourteen year old kids that can just skip school one day and go out and buy a Harley, even though I wish that I could have, and would have.
Advice:
1. Learn to ride at slow speeds. You use rear brake with throttle/clutch to positively control the bike. Check out 'Ride Like a Pro' on youtube.
2. The lean angle will be less compared to the Honda. In curves, you can slow down early, then throttle-up a little to raise the front suspension and give yourself more ground clearance.

my friend has a vulcan and rode a harley (mine) FXSTC for the first time last summer. He said the same thing i thought the first time i rode one. Thats it like going from driving a hyundai to a cadillac. They are as smooth as hell, and have alot of low end torque. Not so much on the top end like the japanese bikes but....well youll see.
Former '89 VT1100 and Sabre owner. I have to admit, I really enjoyed my Shadows. It was honestly the bike I aspired to. I made the "mistake" of taking a friend's SG out for about a 40-50 mile ride and was blown away. Before the SG, I tried to convince myself that all I needed was my Honda to be a happy biker. What a dumbass I was.... haha
