Hog Patch
I've waited a bit to add to this:
As many of you with ties to HOG know, the standing order has always been one dealer, one chapter.
With the 2013 Year brings much change to HOG, and positive for those with great chapters that their sponsoring dealer has closed or otherwise gone away.
See your regional manager for input. This year's Chapter Handbook has been condensed from 328 pages to 127. The explanation I got from our new RM was that HOG felt it better we spend our time riding instead of reading.
The HOG Charter is now a separate document, and is a mere 13 pages. The charter has significant changes as below:
1. Each Chapter must be sponsored by an authorized Harley-Davidson® Dealership / Harley-Davidson® Retail Store. The decision to sponsor a Chapter shall be undertaken solely at the Dealer’s / Retailer’s discretion.
2. An authorized Harley-Davidson® Dealership / Harley-Davidson® Retail Store may sponsor only one H.O.G.® Chapter, unless
there is a valid reason to justify additional Chapter(s) per the H.O.G.® Multiple Chapter Guidelines.
The Original Chapter (Honolulu Hawaii Chapter #0833) retains it's chapter number and name. The incoming chapter does not need to change the name, but the number will change. In this case it is Chapter 083301, and it belongs to the Windward Oahu Chapter.
All the rest still apply... with this addition:
1. Affiliated Chapters shall have the following primary officers: Sponsoring Dealer / Retailer, Chapter Manager, Director,
Assistant Director, Treasurer and Secretary.
2. The Chapter Manager must be a Dealership / Retail Store employee designated by the sponsoring Dealer / Retailer.
i hope the moco has someone monitoring this forum and picks up on this...they can spin off an outlaw 1% club and charge double for dues. call them the feral hogs-the wild bunch that lives off the land. maybe pork skin leather jackets and accessories. instead of screaming eagle accessories, they could call the new line-up "squealing pig"--this year's must have riding accessories. $$$$ for the dealers!

It's been over a year since I moved on and away from the old Hog world. I still keep in touch with a few of the old members who ride the Polar Bear rides, and they tell me what's happening with the old club. Since the sponsoring dealer went belly up, the club changed their name and cut all ties with HD. They basicly do everything the hog club did, just under a new name. I was getting bored with how things were going and the whole running of the club seemed like it was a power grab for a few. That wanted to call the shots. From what I hear things are going OK for the new club, just that membership is starting to dwindle. One thing about having the dealer associated with the club is they keep new blood flowing into it. Every year people leave for one reason or another, but without the steady stream fed by the dealer after a while it will be a club of just officers. You do realise you don't need to have a dealer involved with a group of people that want to ride. Less involvement in day to day operations is always beneficial. The old sponsoring dealer had a buy a bike from me, then don't bother me attitude. Never contributed to club sponsored events and seemed downright cheap to alot of people. I guess that's why when he took over the old dealership, it only lasted 2 years in business. Having an independent club is cool if that what your into, but just meeting up with a group of people you like to ride with is kinda doing the same as a hog group without as much drama.,,
