If you can find the paint code for ember red let me know. I have a 12 streetglide that I want a local body shop to paint my inner fairing and he says he can't match the paint because it is a tri coat and harley does not let out their codes
If you buy the Ember Red colors (base and topcoat) from the dealership, it's over $400 for the 2 quarts and activator. The Merlot is a little cheaper, but not by much). Plus there is clearcoat, reducer, cleaners, polish, etc. The color is a good match "IF" it is sprayed by someone who knows how to spray candies. Car painters at body shops usually don't paint motorcycles. The colors and finish on a Harley don't compare to the colors or finish on a Dodge. I haven't seen a PPG number on these colors yet.
I would recommend taking your inner to a professional that specializes in motorcycles (particularly Harleys) Ember Red and Merlot are high end colors, expect to pay $300 and up for a painted inner in one of these colors. Vivid Black would be a little cheaper, but on the plus side......a color matched inner looks bada$$.

Reason: got the price wrong, should have been $400 not $500
Yes I have heard its expensive. I think a good body shop can do the right color though if they can look at the saddle bag and get it pretty close. There is no reason for this paint to be so damn expensive.
I had my painter custom mix mine by eye. Its possible if the guy is good. There are also special cameras that can take the color and convert it to a mix code.
Harley doesnt give out the codes for some reason.

the cameras don't work so well on the sun-glo or candy colors. The colors look deep and rich because you look through one color at another underneath. And yes these colors are expensive.
