Help deciding with apes
So this winter I'll be changing handlebars (again) on my 06 Street Bob. I currently have Road 6 12in apes, but with my back problems I still feel like I'm leaning over. I'm considering going with either the NYC choppers "nice curves" or the Nash "midget gimps" in 16 inch (I have stock risers). My issue is I'm wondering if anyone else has these and how they will work with my height (6ft), and also if anyone has either bars themselves, and how they like em. Thanks gents.

So with 16's were they a bit higher than shoulder level, and did that height relieve some lower back strain while riding?

The 16 yes as long as you don't slouch. I run a bear bones seat so it makes them even higher. With the stock seat their even with my shoulders

Thought about going with the bare bones, but my shortest rides are at least 60 miles, and I heard it can get rough on longer rides. With the bars that's pretty much exactly what height I want them at, now I just hope to get some feedback on the bars I'm deciding on

If you're trying to guess what size bars you'd be comfortable with, try this:
You'll need a friend to assist with a tape measure.
1) straddle your bike and stand it up.
2) Close your eyes
3) throw your hands out and let them settle where they feel comfy.
4) Have friend measure from top of tree to hands.
5) repeat a few times to make sure.
This measurement will be your "best guess" at what height rise you'd like.

If you're leaning over, try tilting the bars back towards you. That one is free.

That's another reason I want to go taller, the more I pull the bars back the lower they are, so its not much of a help. I'm thinking 16's will be perfect. Now I just need to decide which bars to go with?
