When I purchased my 15 CVO, I negotiated a price that was 4K under the MSRP. When they wrote up the Bill of Sales, they broke out a 1200 setup and shipping charge out of the total which helped lower the sales tax.

I just got an '18 FXLR, set up fees were on the bill of sale. I got the bike "out the door" for less than msrp. I'm happy.

They have to start somewhere..From the Mother Ship web site...

Prices listed are the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices for base models. Options such as color are available at additional cost. Prices exclude tax, title, licensing, registration fees, destination charges, added accessories, and additional dealer charges, if any, and are subject to change. Harley-Davidson reimburses dealers for performing manufacturer-specified pre-delivery inspection and setup tasks. Dealer prices may vary.

That short little last statement is what has made me walk away from buying two new Harleys at my local dealer. When I was much younger, desire outweighed common sense for one car but it was a necessity. My local dealer twice was well above MSRP before what I considered fixed cost such as taxes, title, plates, shipping (which is not in MSRP). I will even pay that cost posted on the wall in VA for them processing it since it's printed on their business form.

Whatever floats your boat, however, One buyer was happy to pay them $1200 extra to uncrate and put the bars on which as best I can tell is in MSRP. So if it was added after, it's not fair. I always try to negotiate lower than MSRP using Harley's website MSRP and NADA new references. I walk when it's above that.

They'll prob be pushing these kinda 'fees' harder this year/next....just a hunch to get profits back up.

Harley-Davidson sales decline continues

I'm not in the market....my next bike (when/if) will be from the used market I'm guessing.

Keep in mind I bought mine in December, but at the St Joe, MO dealer, out the door price was under MSRP.

Same here and no haggling required, bought April 1st at Bayside HD Portsmouth, VA. A great bunch to work with.
