In about a year I hope to get myself a Electric Glide Custom....
I got a quote from one dealer and they wanted $899.00 set up fee....
I told him thats the first thing you will remove from the Price....
Just curious, what have others been charged/quoted for the set up on a EGC....
Most of the dealers around here start with 1k for the setup fee. By the time they add our sales tax and that fee, it is another 2500 on the price and the bike seems almost out of reach. I came home and started calling the 4 dealers in my radius until one quoted a price that didn't include the setup fee. It is a tough situation. They need to make money cause they really are people like you and I. However, I need to keep my money when I can
I didn't pay any fees when I got my bikes. Buying a bike is just like buying a car. You'll get taken if you let them. Do your home work and keep in mind there is over $4000 worth of mark up on a bagger.
The dealer profits are already built into the price. When I bought my SE Ultra, my out the door price was $75.00 over the MSRP. They have a lot of room to negotiate.
Setup fee? What's a setup fee? I don't pay any setup fee!
OK - Now that I got that out of my system, any time I have negotiated a vehicle I have ALWAYS approached it as a "give me a delivered price" fee. I don't want to know from destination chgs., setup, etching, prep, taxes or any other "add on" BS! I go in knowing what the sticker is, what I would like to pay, how much taxes really are. This goes for cars, bikes, and boats. Most salesmen appreciate the fact that I'm a pretty easy sell.
I have never felt that paying "sticker" for anything was reasonable. Padding the bill with these add ons is offensive to me.
Never paid a set up fee or msrp at my dealer. He will usually do $1k under msrp and no fees at all. Plus all accessories are 20% off and free installation at time of purchase. Bought 3 bikes there now. I would tell them to shove it and go some where else.
Good thing that you still have time to look around. When I bought my SG I called 5 dealers and went with the one that gave me the price I wanted. I drove an hour to make the deal and it was worth it.
