I've often wondered what those setup fees actually pay for. Is it for a fresh dust cloth and some shineola wax?

I once drove over 85 miles to a dealer in Southern Ohio and save a lot of money, don't be afraid to go outside of your hometown to buy, when I need service I just enjoy the ride and have my buddy follow me down and we either play golf or go to casino for a 4 hour fun time.

Setup was listed as $600 on my Limited, but they took it off before we even started talking about price.

the damn bike comes in a crate...the dealer has to assemble it before he can put it on the floor to sell. there is an allowance in the dealer's price from the factory for assembly. m.s.r.p. is the most you should pay--anything more and your are at a stealership.

This is the same as my local dealership. I don't understand why I always see people posting these rediculous prices and fees they paid for there bike.

I worked on an out the door price on my Limited. The OTD price we agreed on was 700 under MSRP. They had the set up fees on the sales ticket but I really didn't care because I had the deal I wanted and they can fill the blanks however they want. I'm sure how the sales receipt is done affects the salesmans' commission but he has already made his deal with his employer.

I personally feel if you end up paying anywhere near MSRP, even with tax and all fees, you are at a stealership. There is always a dealer willing to give a good deal. I paid about 2200 under MSRP before tax and fees. And this was on March 31. Right at the beginning of the riding season.

I just bought a 2013 Electra Glide Classic.
No set up fee, no documentation fee, no fees for anything.

Msrp was $22,200 with abs, security and cruise.
I bought it for $21,000
1k and 5k services included with 20% off accessories, parts and clothing.

Set up fees are extortion and clear profit into the dealers pocket.

Kind of like buying a steak dinner and then paying the chef to grill it for you...

Funny thing is these bikes are coming more set up than ever before from the MOCO.. I know dealers still charge Freight and Set-Up but plenty of dealers dont. Shop around if your dealer wont budge. Plenty of new and used bikes out there looking for a good home.
