Default Wtf did I do wrong!?!?

Hello everyone I'm totally new to HD and I picked up a 09 RKC, previous owner said tranny fluid hasn't been changed in a while so went and got a manual some tranny fluid...long story short had it on my bike lift took the drain plug out and it was nasty looking but here is the kicker roughly 150ml came out and that was it. Checked my manual over and over to make sure I pulled the right plug (which I did I hope) refilled it checked on jiffy stand now it says I'm way over full....I know where the engine oil plug is and where the primary plug is...sooo where the hell did the rest of the oil go there was no leaks anywhere...I can't see the dealer screwing something this simple up...is there another drain plug for this besides the 1 I pulled? Sorry for the long post.

The plug i pulled is the 1 facing the ground

The one facing downward is an oil passage for the motor. Your picture does not show the tranny drain plug. It should be located just off the upper left side of the picture.

THATS NOT THE TRANS PLUG!!

So you dumped in a bunch of fluid and checked the level and its way over full.......think about.........you didnt drain the trans.......

That silver looking allen bolt is on the underside of the engine.........that bolt in the back with the allen wrench in the middle is the oil drain plug.......the trans plug is further back on the underside of the pan........

Check again as to the trans drain location.

Might label the plugs "E" and "T" for future services. White paint works well.
I use a white marker made by Sanford called "Mean Streak."

Well you crazy Canuk.... Welcome to the forum from Spartan Country Michigan!
Probably none of these guys will tell you they did something stupid a long long time ago!!! I sure did! And still do!!! All part of the learning experience! Do you have the factory service manual? if not, get one. Also a parts manual. they show some great blow-up drawings which sometimes are more clear than the manual. Also get a 3-ring binder and record what you do. I record all maintenance, repairs, accessories, etc in it. I have two sections... one I record everything, to include oil changes and tires and brakes. The second section is a repeat of oil changes, tires, and brakes. I find this is a nice quick reference so I don't always have to read through many pages of stuff.
Just remember if you post a crazy question or admit an error, you will get ribbing!!! It is all in good humor!!

Yea this. I’ll add fuel stop info - call me OCD. With multiple vehicles, it helps with recalling data. Adds a bunch of resale value as well.
