Hand held tach for engine diagnostics?
I'd like to get an accurate RPM reading on a bike with no tach so I bought a cheap auto parts store hand held tach that is supposed to work on everything- 2 and 4 stroke engines from one to eight cylinders. Well I cant seem to figure out how to get a reading on this thing, the directions leave a lot to be desired. If anyone uses one of these, what setting for a Big Twin Evo with Dyna 2000 set up for dual fire ignition? Or, what do you guys use to measure RPMs while servicing a bike with no tach? Thanks in advance!
Cant seem to load a picture of it right now, but its an ES 328 EZ Tach Plus from NAPA auto parts store. Ill try to put up a picture later. Its a little hand held job with a inductive pickup that clips on to the spark plug wire.
If you really don't get the instructions, just set the settings until you see an obvious idle rpm. If you're off you will either be 1/2 or 2x rpm so it should be relatively easy to get it.
