Default Trip mileage reset

Hi all. I'm now a proud owner of an 1986 Heritage Softail FLST. As with most things 32 years old, it has a few flaws, that I'm working through. First is that the button or ****, that resets the trip mileage was at such an angle, that is did not protrude out of the access hole on the right side of the tank dash. That **** is now, I'm sad to say, broken off, with part of it still attached to, whatever it attaches too, on the speedometer, under the tank dash. My problem is that I can not find anything online, written or video, on how to remove the dash correctly. I'm in the process of ordering a manual, but, given that I have no fuel guage, I depend, like most riders without a fuel guage, on the trip mileage to schedule fill ups. Anyone have a suggestion, or a link to something that will help or pdfs they can share with me until I get the manual???

i don't think you have to take everything apart to fix the broken ****. you need a very small phillips screw driver to get the small screw out. if you can get a needle nose pliers on what's left of the ****, it should pull right out once the screw is removed.
