2005 Sportster getting one hard click
** 2005 Sportster 883R**
Hello ladies and gents. I’m trying to get my bike started for the season, after being in my garage all winter, and I am having issues. When I press start, I am getting one hard click then nothing. All lights and signals are working.
When I first tried, it was obvious my battery needed to be replaced. So I did that. I also tried to detach the cables and retry that. I also replaced my fuses and starter relay. None of these worked.
Any other ideas I may be able to try on my own? Thanks in advance for your help!

The click you hear is from the Starter Relay. If it clicks then it is working and does not need to be replaced. I suspect the starter solenoid is bad or needs to cleaned/rebuilt. All electrical connections will corrode over time. I would first clean the battery contacts, starter contacts, and internal solenoid contacts before replacing anymore unnecessary parts. The following video will help you out.
Good Luck!

Without hearing it, there is no way to determine what the problem is.
The click you are hearing could be the relay, but it could also be the solenoid that you are hearing.
The relay will be a very quiet sound, the solenoid will be a loud clack.
Make sure all battery cables are clean and secure, you must follow the factory service manual for the proper connection procedure.
