Default 05 Sportster won't start :>(

My friend has an 05 Sporty and she went to ride it yesterday but it won't start. Sounded like the battery was dead so she put the battery tender on over night but still just clicks and won't turn over???

The lights work but the starter won't turn not sure if the battery is toast or a relay or the starter.
Anyone had this on their Sportster?

When starter is engaged, do lights stay on?

First thing I would do is make sure that your battery cables are "wrench" tight on both ends of the cable....not just "feels tight".

It also could be a bad starter relay. You can always jump the relay which basically bypasses it and sends power to the starter. If you jump the relay and the starter does the same thing then i would start looking there.

all good advice above... some slight chance that it could be a bad stator, or a loose/ disconnected stator. i think that the wire connecting the stator to the regulator exits from the back side of the primary housing, and hooks to the regulator through an in-line connector-

Do you have a multimeter? Check the battery voltage. A fully charged, healthy battery, will read 12.5-12.8 volts. Any reading bellow 12 volts means, the battery needs replacing. Check all of the battery connections. Pay close attention to the battery ground (-) connection.

Just an UPDATE:::

After going thru a bunch of rigamaroll and checking all the wired connections a friend of mine stopped over and says put it in 2nd gear and rock it back and forth a couple times.
We did that and the **** started right up....WTF!!!

The starter or something was just stuck. I couldn't believe it.

Just something to put in your memory banks if your Sporster just clicks when you try to start it. Try this first....

Sounds like a flat spot on the starter. It will do it again. Next time it might not start again. Figure out the problem and fix it before it leaves her sitting somewhere.
