Default another curiosity

In my American Iron magazine I see several different styles of trikes. I thought that I would open the door to hear comments about if anyone has a trike or has ever ridden one. If so, how did you like it? There's nothing new about the trike because Harley made them years ago, but I was just curious.

I reckon trikes have their place, but not in my garage.

We have a triker in my CMA chapter. She is the wife of a retired Army MSgt. It's a 'Wing, triked out by a company located near Longview, TX. She rides it pretty well, and is an excellent tailgunner on a group ride. I know several trikersand they have 'em for various reasons. Some have a balance or strength problem due to accidents, disease, amputation, etc. A few actually like 'em. Some ride 'em 'cause they are the designated junk haulers for their chapter.

To each his own!

Not to hijack the thread, but I've always wondered how the turn...do they lean? Do you countersteer? What's the deal?

Most trikes rear end is set up as a straight axle. With that in place you have to muscle the handlebars to turn it. Most give a rough ride also. Some of the newer trike conversions offer an independent rear suspension, which should give a better ride, and better handling characteristics, however I dont think lean or countersteer would come into effect.

I've seen some pictures of trikes that the rearend has the ability to lean one way or the other when cornering. While I might not want one, I think that if the only way that a person could ride a motorcycle would be on a trike, that it would be ok. At least they would be able to enjoy what some of us that are in better shape can enjoy. Each to his or her own.

Most of us as kidds learned to ride on a tricycle first, then went on two wheels......IMHO its just the oposite trikes have a time and place for some us, I'm not there yet

I find something that I think is interesting. My folks didn't have much money for toys so I had to learn on a bicycle right off the bat. I just jumped on my bike and learned the hard way. My foot slipped off of the pedal and I became a soprano for a while. My first motorcycle I just jumped on it and started learning how to ride. I haven't been on a motorcycle for probably 20 years. I'm planning on getting a new Harley soon, it will be interesting to see if I can still do it.
