I just bought a 93' 1200 sportster in pieces. Got it all back to stock and ready for a carb. The guy I got it from gave me 2 carbs. but diff. #s... One is a 99, other an 96. 99 #98DAEQAT on body. 96#s 92TAAKCL. Driven my to the nut house trying to Google. Anyone tell me which one I should concentrate one?? APPRECIATE!!! HIGHLY... TIM
I'd bet the only difference, aside from maybe jet sizes, is the 96 has the float bowl drain.
So, sorry bug again, should have paid attention more helping my uncle out in his garage/shop up in washington state. But the bowl drain, where might that hook up at?? Heres a pic of how she was when I got her to today.. thank you for the knowledge & of course the experience.. Day she got her rebuilt 1200.. 10.5-1.. Just had pcs. Of the stock 1200. First bike engine build, 3mnths. All matching #s all around. Today, pretty proud, thank you ...1993 1200 sportster ,, 90th anniversary edition brought back from being found in a over grown field, mainly burried in dirt..
Leave it to California to not allow any gas fumes into their precious air... It's the only state I've been to where the gas stations have these annoying vacuum tubes around the fuel fill nozzle that suck air in while you're filling the tank. They're a total bitch to fill a motorcycle with.
Anyway, the float bowl drain just connects to a small hose and runs down under the bike. It's used in case the float needle gets stuck and the bowl overfills. You can also loosen the screw in the bowl (NOT the idle mixture screw) to drain the float bowl thru this drain as well.
