How does the hive feel about the Ceramic coating some HD dealers and businesses are applying to their bikes? Local HD dealer charges $950 and says it's good for 2-5 years. I have seen two bikes with this snake oil applied and NO question is badass upgrade.
So who's in?
Ceramic coating is big with cars, I think it’s a waste of money. If your bike or car is kept in a garage and waxed regularly, it will be protected the same as ceramic. On another forum a guy was getting his motor home ceramic coated because it was parked outside and not covered. In his case, I understand doing it.
Ceramic coating will not make it shine better than a quality carnuba wax, and the dirt will wash off the same.
Well, I had mine done and think it was worth it for the money spent. Friday went for a 270 mile ride and got bugged pretty bad. Had to wait till late Saturday afternoon to wash the bike.
Actually didn't have to wash with soap and water. Got the bugs wet and wiped off with a couple of damp towel, then dried. No water spots and no waxing required.
Go to an indy and have it done.

$950 to do a bike is ridiculous.
It can be done for a lot less than $950. I've applied it many times on different vehicles and I am a hobby detailer. Too suggest it does not shine better or clean up better than a quality carnuba wax is just simply not true. Ceramic and now SIO2 coatings are light years ahead of the old wax technology. Wax of any quality just simply cannot last as long be as durable shine as much or provide the hydrophobic properties as ceramic or SIO2. Not looking for an argument just simply stating was is the truth. I've applied both many times and there is no comparison. With that being said there is prep work involved before applying a ceramic or SIO2 but there are several on the market that can be applied by the DIY person and doesn't cost $900.

A ceramic or SIO2 coating is worth every penny but NOT at a dealer. Go to a reputable independent shop that ddoes autos and bikes. If you want PM me I'll see if I can hook you up with someone in your area. They make ones now for the DIY guy.
Snake oil totally ,I hate that they miss use the word ceramic . Ceramic coating its something you do to a cast iron sink or bathtub and to inside of a hot water heater tank , the inside of the good set cooking pots or something people do to their pottery . Real ceramic coatings are baked on at a very high temperature.
Its just like the artificial floor companies that say the finish on their floors is , as hard as titanium.
Ceramic coatings and the like are hands down better than any wax or sealer. Better protection and better shine, end of story. The paint you apply it to has to be in good shape, it won't make a pig shine and that's where a lot of the cost comes in the application. Paint needs to be clay barred and compounded, even a brand new bike. A bike will take every bit of 3/4 day to get ready to apply a coating, then the coating needs to cure which might take another day. I did my last bike over a weekend and will do the new one once I get the new fender cured.
$950 is steep but that's going to come with a warranty.
Do it yourself. There are some rally good products out there. My kid has been doing our vehicles and I am very happy. We are using a Graphien product from Adams polishes. The shine is awesome and its almost like dirt and dust won't stick to the paint anymore. I don't know how Adams rates against other companies, so there might be better or less expensvie products but its what we lucked into and I see no need to change.
