So very true. Many of my high-end tools I bought second hand as it is literally less than penny on the dollar. My wife will have a lot to deal with some day. Just hope that day is not too soon...

Just went and bought one of these last night based off of your recommendation.

My former BIL used to make good money in south Texas. This was around 2002-2010. He would go to estate sells where a lady would sell a tool box full of "old" tools for cheap cheap. He said 90% of the time they were Craftsman, Snap On, and the such. He lived in an area with a huge car culture and such. He would buy the tool box, bring them home and clean and polish the tools. Then he would go to Sears or Snap On or whatnot and get free replacements for all the broke and funky tools. Then he would sell the tools online. Kinda of petered out with Craftsman going to crap and life got busy for him so he didn't have the time.

Before Hurricane Ivan hit I went to HOBO freight to get a hammer drill to board up my windows. This was a get it done quick job because it was heading right for us. I think the drill made it 5 holes before it **** the bed. I grabbed the cord and threw it into the holding pond behind my house. Ive never stepped foot into that place again.

It took a while but I have a box full of tool truck tools. 75% was bought 2nd hand, garage journal and eBay. The rest were bought new. If I have to save up and find the truck, so be it.
At least when Im gone my son will get well made American tools

I'm somewhere in the middle. Have been wrenching since 14yo. That was over 50 years ago. Took apart lawn mowers, then mini bikes, then 2 stroke dirt bikes, V8 engines, built street cars, race cars. All alog the way I'd buy somethings better than what I had. Or what I could afford. It cracks me up to read about people investing in snap-on and making payments for life.....that what they say. I know several professional car and motorcyle mechanices that NEED to have that level of tools. that is the investment. Me, home garage mechanic, change cam once, maybe a 2nd one, general maintenance, I can live with HF ( the better quality brand) and get enough use out it to justify it,
A quality torque wrench, yeah , that's important. Oh I do look for that " i don't have that tool" and buy just in case.
Some I have NOT used....yet.
