The part I need is the hemispherical retaining clip that is located inside the clutch basket. It is 1 3/4 inches cylindrical . It's the one that holds the spring washer in the inside of the basket, that is behind the nut that holds the clutch basket on to the transmission jack shaft.
I called Harley, and they won't sell me one, because it's part of the basket. Yeah, right, I'll buy a new clutch for a $0.50 retaining clip.
I am so mad at the way Harley parts guys have no brains and will only bring in what's in the "book", but that's another post.
Please, please please, anyone out there that can ask their dealer if they have a junk basket for sale so I can salvage this ring I would greatly appreciate it.

Scout, is it possible for you to post a good pic of the clip needed? I have a lot of old junk, and may be able to help you out, or I can also ck with my brother for the clip. If I can help you out, I will.
I found a company that makes them. Smally Steel Ring Company. USA, France and Sweden.
Thanks for the help.
P.S. I'm still going to complain to H.D. about the dealers. You would think someone would know the origin supplier of the ring, or that someone in the clutch plant would mail me one. I wasn't looking for a free part. It like the parts guy's only know how to look in the book, and if it's not there, you can't get it.
I've found in over 20 yrs working in dealerships, a lot of times the parts people really sucked as far as being helpful on ANYTHING beyond what was required for their job - the only time they helped out was when they needed something!!! (no offense intended to those parts guys out there who are "normal" human beings)
sounds like the parts guys at my local auto store. If they can't find it on the computer, they say "can't get it or they don't make one". I don't think half of them could look up a part in the catalog if there life depended on it.

Glad you found it Joe, I will file that info for future reference.
Follow up - I called Smally and they connected me with their Canadian distributor. They couldn't sell me one since it was no where near their minimum order, so they of course gave it to me. Called Deeley's ( the exclusive Canadian dealer for all Harley's, parts and motorclothes in Canada) and suprise, the boss phoned me back TWICE, to apologize for the dealers, and to see if there was anything else he could do for me.
My respect for Deeley's and HD is back up there, but I still think that the retail level could use some work. They should quit hiring clerks for the parts end, and get some good old fashioned wrenches to deal with customers.
