You have to media blast or sand blast anything before you powdercoat or paint chrome. Painting chrome is easy, getting paint to stick, is the hard part. I have painted chrome parts before with some luck. First I sandblast till I have a uniform etched surface then clean with wax remover. Then a good etching primer like zink chromate followed by a good primer. I have used urethane and then baked it on. Works pretty good. Not as durable as regular paint on preped surfaces but then chrome is very slick.

Good luck

Default Painting chrome

I have messed with pinstriping on powder coated stuff and it just never worked for me. Even spraying with a hardner in the paint. Its like painting on ceramic coated metal. Like Moonrider said, painting on chrome is easy. Getting it to stick, look out.
Media Blast it, and the Zinc Chromate or two part Urethane primer, (my fav), then apply your paint. Some paint brands have different primers too.
Meaning different grades. What ever you do, don't leave in primer as it
attracts moister. If you media blast any surface take precautions so media doesn't get inside parts as it is hard to get all particles out.
Hope it helps,

I powder coat over crome all the time, sometimes only whipeing it with degreaser and have never had a problem with it not sticking proper. You could sand it with 220 grit sandpaper just to be safe.Sand blasting is for rust and rust only, media blasting works fine as long as you are not media blasting with soda, but really why spend the money to have it media blasted when you could just buy 1 sheet of 220 sandpaper for a buck and it will work just as well.

I have powder coated over chrome a few times and have never had a problem as long as the chrome was clean and oil free...
