Default Grip Replacement

This may (probably) be a dumb question, but... how do you remove and replace the stock grips? I have an 09 Road King Classic... I looked at them to figure out how to remove but couldn't.

Thanks

I have a softtail and simply cut the original rubber grips with a box cutter. I replaced them with some Willie-G grips.

the right grip, you take apart the assembly and disconnect it and it comes off. The left grip is glued in place. You can try a heat gun, and some...ah crap i fergit, but the easy way is to take a razor knife and cut it off, sand (emery cloth) the now exposed handlebar to remove the glue, try on new grips for fit and position, mark them for position, apply glue to left grip, put it back in position and when you buy grips, it will come with instructions so why are you asking me this, this early in the mornin' before my coffee???

You can do it two ways 1)If you don't want to save it simply cut it off and discard 2) You can use some carb cleaner to spray between the grip and bar to dissolve the glue or blow air between the grip and bar to expand the grip.I've removed them using both methods just make sure you clean up the bar before putting the new one.Hope this helps.

I'm not very handy when it comes to projects. That said though, yesterday I bought a rider backrest for my bike.

Last month I inquired about haing one installed. The dealer was having a special if your order, included build, came to over 500.00 you would be given wholesale price on the parts. I was todl that the rider backrest, install kit, and build were under 500.00 so I did not qualify. The guy suggested that I do a taillight conversion kit too, and it would bring it to about 560.00 and it would qualify. I decided to hold off. Then last week while in for the 1000 mile service, I asked the service manager if the conversion kit was hard to install he said "no, if you want I'll at if during the service at no extra charge for labor.". The conversion kit was about 50.00 with discount.

Yesterday when I bought the rider back rest I decided to "try" to install it myself. It took me about 45 minutes tops.

560.00
- 50.00 no labor conversion kit
- 210.00 backrest and install kit
--------
300.00 amount I saved doing it myself.

I'm not the most mechanical guy out there either but I installed a set of Willie G. grips this past Saturday. Pretty easy and took about 45 minutes. Good luck.
