Default Warranty question

Will drilling out the baffles void the warranty? Dealership's closed so I can't ask them.

Generally, when you make modifications to the exhaust you need to also look at the carb or EFI to ensure you don't create a lean condition. If your bike is EFI, then save your self the trouble and spend the money for a set of pipes or mufflers. They are well worth the expense and in the end, you get the most gains. You won't gain much by trying to modify the stock mufflers.

Yeah, I know I'll have to rejet the carb but I wanna know if it voids the warranty. I haven't decided if I'm putting on new pipes or what; just lookin' at all my options.

No. And a small amount of exhaust relief should not cause a severe lean condition.

I don't understand what you mean by this. Could you clarify for me?

The relief to the exhaust by drilling/removing the baffels in stock mufflers is not nearly as much of a relief (or opening up) by installing SE slip ons or other exhausts with greater sound. So, as the exhaust is opened to breathe easier the engine ingests more air and with stock fitted jetting the engine burns a lighter mixture of fuel and air (lighter on a fixed amount of fuel) - a lean burn condition. More heat: burnt valves, blown headgaskets, preignition, dieseling, burnt oil, annealed rings, hot engine, etc, etc.

What will be gained by drilling the baffles?
I think you would be better off buying mufflers that have been designed/tested for best results.

the gain would be a heavier wallet. drilling is old school. it was done that way long before there was any fancy exhaust systems. drill on!!!!
