Default Security Screws

I bought a set of soft lowers today. On my engine guard, there is a helmet lock, that is affixed with two of those security screws. They are slotted for a flat tip screwdriver, but are machined in such a way that you can only tighten them...you can't loosed them, as the slots on the "counter-clockwise" size of the slot, are ramped.

The helmet lock is in the way of the lowers and has to be removed or at the least, moved. How do I get those screws out??

Dremel works.
I've had luck in the past with a really big flat head scredriver as well.

You could also try using a small chisel and a hammer if the head of the screw is exposed.Just hit the side of head to break it loose.
Vice grips might work also.

Sounds like what you have is a one way screw. If you want to take it out correctly and reuse it or without tearing up the parts around your bike then just pick up a "One-way-un-do-it Screwdriver" from Hudson or McLendon Hardware on Ebay and do it the right way.

thanks for the tip on the one-way-un-do-it-screwdriver. I found it at Honest Bob's tool emporium, right next to the after-market blinker fluid dip stick display!!

The only way you are gonna get those screws out is to take a drill and drill them out. I've got a helmet lock on my bike also....But no way was I gonna use those screw. Went to the local hardware and got two stainless steel Phillips head machine screws.

I actually have a One-Way-Un-Do-It-Screwdriver that I could sell. $8.88 free shipping in US.

When I bought it I was not aware it was left handed so being right handed I can't use it.

Let me know if you want it.

There are actually such things as security removal drivers.
Go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ catalog page 2689

One-Way Screw Removal Tools
One-way screws can be installed with a regular screwdriver but are easily removed only with these tools. Just apply downward pressure and rotate to extract one-way screws. Screws installed with power tools must be drilled out. Blades are steel; handles are plastic.
One-way screw removal tools are for removal only.

when I installed my lock, I left enough of the lower screw end exposed to use a small vice-grip to start removal. Once loose, I could finger screw it. Don't let my OL know.
