I have a 2012 Road Glide FLTRX. I am going to install a Road Tech 660 Zumo. I have the GPS and the handlebar mount already. What I am trying to figure out is if I need to also install the Navigation Interface Module.
I am not exactly sure what this module does. I read the description a couple of times and get the gist of it but not the detail. Will this module mute the system to announce GPS directions when I am listening to AM/FM radio or only when listening to the mp3 player in the Zumo 660? Will it mute if I am listening to an iPod connected via cable to the aux input?
Does it do anything else besides controlling the mute functions described in the previous paragraph?
Somewhere along the way someone told me that I could connect the GPS to the radio via a cable to the aux input and accomplish the same thing as using this module. Is that correct?
Anything else you can tell me about the functionality related to this module would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your help!

the NIM transmits the sounds from the GPS through your stock HD system and yes it will mute the audio whether it be radio, CD, etc to allow the turn by turn directions to come through.
Connecting the GPS to the aux input; your headunits' mode will have to be on aux for you to hear any sounds
