In April 1985 I was going east on Hwy 580 near Plesanton Ca on my 1982 FXR.An 18 wheeler going west lost a set of duals, they jumped the divider and hit me in the face.I was doing about 70 he was going 65.I was'nt wearing a Bucket and they say that saved my life.My face absorbed the impact if id been wearing a bucket it woulda de-capitated me .As it was it tore the left side of my face off'jacked my jaw around to the back of my head, broke my neck, broke my back in two places, crushed my hand and foot, and tons of road rash. The amazing thing is I am still walking, riding, and I don't scare children when they look at me.The trucker was running steel rims on an aluminum hub ,5 out of 10 of the retention studs were broken and had been for sometime. Just goes to show you it can come from nowhere! Talk about a bb in a box car.
