1" 139 Tooth Belt---does anyone make one that won't break?
Looking into changing my wife's 2013 Road Glide/Motor Trike conversion trike to a 30 tooth trans. pulley and if I do will, most likely, need a shorter belt. I keep reading about the aftermarket belts that break expectantly so I don't want to do it if I can't find a good belt. Does anyone know of one as good as OEM? Stock belt is 1" x 140 tooth so I'm assuming I will need a 1" x 139 tooth replacement.

Have you talked to your local H-D dealer's Parts Dept to see what your belt options would be? Have you looked where the rear belt adjustment is at,now,so you can get an idea how much adjustment you have left,if any?
You might have enough adjustment left to change the front pulley without having to change the belt.

No, I haven't checked yet. Been harvesting crops and haven't had time to look at it. Just been thinking about it. Just finished harvest today so maybe I can check--I was hoping there is enough adjustment at the rear end to not need the belt but I haven't checked yet. I'll probably check with our dealer before long but I'm guessing that if there were a 139 tooth belt in the correct width, someone would have mentioned it on here. If there isn't enough adjustment to use the stock belt I doubt that I will do the conversion and just do cams only. We take long trips and I don't want to take the chance of one breaking and no replacement immediately available.

I'm in the middle of doing a conversion from 32T to 30T on my older bike and have had to accept using a shorter belt. No way would the stock belt work! I changed my 139T belt for a 137T one and all is fine. Your bike being later may be different, but I have read plenty of times that the pulley swap can be made with the same belt, however you may have to find out for yourself!
Your bike has a 1" belt, but the H-D factory trikes use a reinforced 1 1/18" belt, with a 30T trans pulley. All three widths (including 1 1/2") will work on the front pulley, so consider using a factory trike rear, to use that wider stronger belt. Across the H-D model range there are several OEM belt lengths available. I used an OEM Sportster belt (my bike uses 1 1/8").
The reason H-D has gone from 1 1/2" wide, to 1 1/8" and now 1" is that over the years the design and materials have improved. I wouldn't be surprised if a 1" belt is significantly stronger than a 1 1/2" one, but I doubt if they will never break!

Last winter I swapped over to a 70 sprocket on Motortrike Trog kit. I bought a new older 70 tooth rear pulley that would accept a 1 1/2" wide belt. There was more than enough room to do the swap. Biggest pain was removing the left side rear axle assembly.
Use a straight edge laying flat against the front pully face and the rear pulley face to make sure your alignment is correct before bolting the rear end back up. Otherwise you could end up rubbing the edge of the belt and that would not be good

I have a customer with an 03 that her belt broke. About how long did it take to get the belt out. I know I will have to pull the primary to get the belt out up there. (Maybe an hour for that if all goes smooth)Will I still need to take swing arm loose? Whats involved on the rearend? Thanks In Advance.
