I am going to be doing a Frankenstein trike conversion using a sportster bike. Which would be the best frame for this conversion, A 2003 solid mount motor or a 2006 rubber mount motor? I know I will probably get different suggestions for each year so please give me the reasons for choice of year
Thanks in advance
Gerald

Apologies it does not address your question but NCBandit has a classy looking Frankenstein conversion on a 2016 Softail Slim. IMHO it's one of the best looking I've seen.

I read the build sheet on his bike and I agree with you, its one of the nicest I have seen but I cant afford a newer bike so that is why I am doing the sporty

Frankenstein has kits for both frame styles ... my Frankenstein is on a 2008 Sportster 883 Custom, I also added Frankenstein's 4* rake trees ... I have not any problems and enjoy the trike ... being rubber mounted I would think you would have less vibration ... my mirrors are not crystal clear but there's not enough vibration I can't see out of them

It appears that the kits are the same for each year except the swing arm, so it really comes down to which year you prefer as a bike in general. From what I have read there should be less vibration with the rubber mount engine so that would be reason enough for me to go with the 2006. Good luck with your decision.

I guess I should have been more clear on my question.
My main concern is which frame would be better the solid mount or the rubber mount. On the rubber mount the swing arm bolt goes through the back of the tranny whereas on the solid mount it does not. I am wondering which set up would be best without the chance of breaking

On a Sportster the swing arm bolts do not go through the back of the tranny ... believe me, I put my Frankenstein kit on myself ... there are actually two bolts, one on each side ... for less vibration go with the rubber mount

Let me clarify what I am saying ... there is a pivot for the swing arm that goes through the rubber mounts. You do not need to remove the pivot to be able to remove the swing arm. Remove the swing arm bolts on each side and the swing arm will come off. Frankenstein gives you a set of isolators to insert, slide their swing arm in place and reinstall the bolts.

Yes there is a pivot on the back of the tranny, but you don't do anything with it.
