what is the advantage of the springer front end? and would it make a good trike? I understand there is a handling difference between springers and non-springers, just not sure what the diff is.
No advantage would look cool and different custom look. Old school look. I don't think it would handle as good. Never road a bike with a springer front end. I like the look though.
I believe the Softail will be Triked and come in the standard versions including the Heritage Classic.
I don't think a springer front end would be condusive for good handling on a Trike. They have to use a steering damper on them now and I just don't know how a damper would look on a Springer.
Good looking things though, in that weight class they may be able to leave the damper off!
I rode a Springer Softail and Im cetain the handling of it with trike body would wear out the bushing really fast. Springer front ends on a 2 wheel bike need constant adjusment and bushing replacement every 10k to 15k miles to keep them tuned.
the only advantage of a stock springer on a trike would be the looks....
the stock springer front end does not provide the correct amount of trail when you convert from a two wheeler to a three wheeler. the problem with the springer front ends is that you can't just buy a raked set of trees to adjust for trail so you would have to either have a custom setup made or cut the frame and rake it out to correct the trail. you might be able to use a steering damper, but i'm not sure that would provide the stability that you need.
hell...it's always worth a try and if you want it bad enough, you might be able to find a way to make it work.
