The pickup wire usually goes to pin No. 3 on the speedometer plug.

It's located in the wiring block under the dash as the speedo.
You'll have to remove a plastic locking bar from the side of the wiring block to remove a plastic *plug* thats in in position 3.
I think it's pink or red, can't remember now.

Anyway, remove the locking bar, not completely just enough to uncover and remove the plug in position 3.
It you've bought the HD mini tach, you don't need to buy any seperate terminals as its already crimped on a wire that comes with the HD mini tach kit.

Terminal 3 = RPM
There's an empty P&A Ignition Circuit in the Fuse block that's perfect for powering the tach, this way it'll be fused, fuse spades/wiring comes with the mini tach kit.
Ground it to one of the posts under the seat in the recess.

You can see the wiring kit in the service parts page here:

Sheet J03119 MINI TACH GAUGE KIT Kit Number 68953-04 and 68986-04

If you are going aftermarket part 13 would be a wise buy.

Pin #3 in the ECU connector is also a place to get the tach signal on late model bikes. The ECU pin seems to provide more reliable operation than the speedo connector and there is no need to pull the speedo trim off.

The speedo pin #3 did not work on the '06 Dyna Street Bob but the #3 pin on the ECM does work and thank you ColdCase for the link in the other thread to the person that made the original discovery!
