Hey Everyone,

New here. Been checking and using info off this site for a while and finally signed up today. Thanks for all your help in the past. I have a 99 dyna superglide sport and the mph, back light, and miles are not working on speedo. When I turn the key on the engine light comes on for about 8 seconds then goes away. I also pulled the sensor out of the trans and cleaned that off. Any ideas?

 

Check on the back of the speedo for power and ground. The ground should have .5 or less ohms and I believe the orange and white wire carries power. If you have those then more than likely your gauge has gone bad. The speed sensor in the trans only sends a speed signal and has nothing to do with the backlighting to the speedo

 

I just checked and yes the orange and white has 12v. Assuming ground to be the black wire it has 36.2ohms and changes with key on/off. Not sure I have the right wire. Do you know the color for the ground?

 

Usually black are you checking with the speedo plugged in or not?

 

Not plugged in.

 

Doesn't have a very good connection I would try making a jumper wire for the black lead and connect it to ground directly and plug speedo in. Good connection = .5 ohms or less

 

Just made the jumper wire direct to ground and still not working. Checked and had 12v across ground and orange wire so im thinking this speedo is shot.
