Default mini speedo problem

I wired a drag specialties mini speedo onto my bike using the supplied wiring harness and the stock speed sensor. the backlighting comes on, and the odometer reads all zeros. I get no function from the speedo, or the odometer when i ride. does anyone know what the voltages should be to the speed sensor? I am getting 8.5 on the red, 7.2 on the white, and 0 on the ground. White is supposed to be the signal carrier, and red is the 12v sensor power. I am lost because the speedo didn't come with any paperwork, instructions, or wiring diagrams. Please help.

Still very confused. Does anyone know what voltage should be on the red and white wires going to the sensor?
