Hey all, the source of my oil leak is not the generator but the exhaust lifter block. I bought the lifter block removal tool but man is it stuck in there. I'm afraid of damaging the lifter. Any thoughts or suggestions on this. First time trying to remove these.............
Two things - heat it with map gas around the base - use a temp checker get it to 250 then tap the top brass hammer or drift then try to turn it - tap turn kind of thing
Got it John, a little side to side, PB Blaster and about an hour of patience. Watched great weather go by this weekend as both bikes are waiting on stuff.
Wow, pretty f%#king pissed at this point. New lifter block and o-ring. Still have oil leaking at this point. Almost worse than before. I yanked the lifter block out again and the o-ring looks good, I thought it might have been damaged when installing the lifter block even though I had lots of grease to make the install smooth. I'm seeing no cracks in the case or surrounding areas. Push rod tubes tight and not leaking. When I micked the lifter block it was the same as the measurement for the o-ring, so there doesn't seem to be a great seal in this area. Very frustrating.... Hey, not asking anyone to rescue me but any thoughts would be appreciated. Another new lifter block on the way and o-rings to boot.
Those damn lifter block O rings are hit n miss. Both front cylinder block would weep oil no matter what O ring I used. So, for ***** n giggles, I smeared a little Hylomar around em, just around where they mate to the case. It's been all good for a couple thousand miles now.
Thanks Mick, much appreciated, I'll get some coming. Hey, do these lifter blocks go in really tight? Man, I had to tap with wood blocks and a hammer to get it back in. Mine have the grooves on the side where you can slide the removal tool into. When I ordered one from SportyParts in Fullerton CA, he sent me one with no grooves, which would have been ok but then it would not match the others, so he sent me the matching one. Maybe that was correct for the 1970 year model? Was there any difference in diameter between these 2? I get a little concerned when the fitment is so tight but maybe that's just the way they are.
