Forward Controls
They are the daniel boone forwards which are just a pile of junk, there are a few horror stories around about these. I had a set on my 76 and took a while to get them set up right in the end i threw them in the bin, save your money and get a decent set of forwards.
Those are junk. They break at the welds. They flex. They are way too far forward, unless you are very long in the leg. You have to move your foot way off the peg to operate the levers.
I know of no good forwards for 79 to 81. On my 1980 i installed those designed for 1986 to 2003; they were aftermarket copies of the HDs; got them on eBay.
The modifications included drilling 1" holes in the lower front engine mounts among others. These are very satisfactory. I have never seen anything as good anywhere.
Here is a link to some pics on PhotoBucket. If you want to do this i can provide more descriptive info.

@IronMick do you have a name or link to the ones you used? I'm attaching pics of my highway peg placement as well I beleieve they're right were those controls would go. On a sidenote what would you recommend for a carb replacement/upgrade? Mine leaks fuel out the weep tube somethin fierce at times imagine the needle ain't seating proper any more and needs rebuilt so figured I might just upgrade instead. TIA you rock!!

Sorry, no link. I found them on eBay 3 or 4 years ago. They are a copy of the HD OEM forwards so that is what to look for. There are others that have a different design - i do not know if they would work like these, so you have to know what the OEMs look like.
Yes, they install where your hiway pegs are. It was not cheap. The kit was $220 plus shipping; i spent another $60 at a machine shop getting the 1" ID nuts sliced down to exact size; more on buying the 1" ID nuts and washers; drilling the 1" ID holes in the mount plates. But they work and work well. Worth the time and $s. I can get you more details on the process if you are actually going to do it.
For the carb it may be just the float level needs to be adjusted. The FM contains a photo and schematic diagram of the procedure.
A popular replacement, from a cost and performance perspective, is a used Keihin CV carb from 1990 to 2003. eBay about $100. Others recommemd some S&S carbs, or the Mikuni VM38. None is a straight bolt on. They all require a mount between the carb and the manifold, and between the carb and the A/C. A replacement used Keihin butterfly carb can be had from eBay for about $50.
