Default To seal or not to seal

One more question on the oil pump.....I recently read somewhere that you shouldn't use gasket sealer when using a paper gasket on an oil pump and only sparingly if used. Any opinions on this?

I use Permatex #3 on the oil pump gaskets.
Regarding a question such as you ask, it is always a good idea to follow the factory service recommendations.

In this case, the factory says to use a non hardening gasket sealer on the oil pump gaskets.
Permatex # 3 is a non hardening sealer. Permatex # 2 IS NOT!

I use a little Permatex Hylomar to stick vertical gaskets in place, and occasionally as a gasket sealer. It is non-hardening; non-silicone also.

Permatex copper spray does not harden. Also, like the Hylomar, it is a gasker sealer as opposed to a gasket maker. Name has been changed - people refer to is as Copper Coat, various spellings, but it has a different name now.
