Default USB charging

Hello, I am looking for a way to charge my phone while riding. I have a couple plans that seem like they will work. Just need to know if the bike is on a 6v or 12v system. I have heard both ways. If it helps it is a 1980 sportster 1000cc

It is 12 volt.

You can use the cable for your phone that plugs into a cigarette lighter type socket. You just have to buy the socket part. Available at any Canadian Tire, auto parts, etc.

The socket will have two wires - one is ground attach it it anywhere, the other needs 12 volts attach to any 12 volt [all orange, some others] wire on the bike.

I made a Y with 3 short pieces of 16 gauge wire and bullet connectors, and tapped into the 12 volt red wire to the speedometer.

You can plug in a GPS unit the same way.
