Default Intercom Help Needed

So, I got the headsets (plug in type) installed in our helmets. I have the intercom feature turned on. We can hear music. When we speak, the music volume automatically lowers, but we can't hear each other's voices through the earpieces.

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

As always, thanks much
Emil

Turn the intercom voice volume up. When you talk, the other person turns their volume up. The boom system has a volume control for each and every function.

As posted above you have to be speaking when turning the volume up for each person. Just start talking and at same time hold volume button up and you'll see the increase on the screen.

Is that for just the first time ever, first time for that ride, or each time you talk?

You can only adjust the intercom volume when the other person is speaking on the intercom. This is true with both front & rear, as they are adjusted separately.

Once you have them adjusted, they should stay that volume until adjusted again.

You probably can't hear them because the volume is turned all the way down...

Start talking and turn the intercom volume up. There is one adjustment
for the front - left toggle up, and one for the rear - passenger volume control.
Once you have this set, you may discover what the rest of this is about.

I have a 2017 Harley Ultra Classic, so there is no CB, and no PTT
installed as standard options. I don't want to have the CB installed
only to discover the same problems.

We have J & M helmet speaker system, awesome thanks, and use it
for limited communications, through the terrible VOX intercom, that can
never set at the right level. It's either too, or not sensitive enough. I
have been trying to get the right level for 80,000 miles and 2 bikes!

While listing to music, the vox is suppose to get the message that
we are trying to talk. The problem, it frequently transmits half messages
then switches back to music. The typical conversation:

She: "the cows"
me: What?
She: "at the cows!"
Me: "Sorry I didn't get all that"
She: (loud) "Look at all the G.D. cows!"
me: "Where?"
She: "en we get home"
me: "What?"
She (screaming) "lets just talk when we get home!"

So at present, my solution is to turn the vox sensitivity all the way
up, so the music does not play at all and we can talk until the cows
come home. Option two, is to turn the vox off, listen to the music,
and yell at each other when we have something to say.

Does J & M have anything to fix this problem?

The key is to follow the directions above and do it before taking the bike out. You will have to make some adjustments to account for wind that will activate the mic on either of you.

The music will automatically cut out to allow for mic communication and phone calls if you have your phone blue-toothed to make and receive calls.

Default Intercom problem

Hello, I have the same problem with my intercom, I can hear music, I can make phonecalls but I cannot communicate with my passenger.
I tried talking and turning the intercom volume up, as suggested in this thread, but without result. Music keeps on playing.
What am I doing wrong?
I own a 2017 Ultra Limited.
Thanks

Thanks, I already found it, but my bike seems to be a little different, the possibility of using the CB is not an option because I don’t have CB, also I don’t have a PTT button, the passenger has one but no switch on the handlebar 😟 Although I can adjust the volume for CB for rider and passenger!
So I will have to do it with the voice activated Intercom and the wired headset. Our headsets are 20 years old, works great on my 1989 Ultra Classic. I have already replaced the cables for new ones, the new cables have smaller plugs for the helmet unit so I had to put on bigger plugs. But I think the cables and helmet unit are not the problem because I can make phone calls and hear the music.
