WHIM install 2018 Ultra Limited
Just finished installing the WHIM on 2018 Ultra Limited. A few things: 1) Instructions on both hard copy and HD website regarding which mounting bracket to use are wrong. There are two brackets that come in the WHIM kit. One is for "fork mounted" fairings and the other for "frame mounted" fairings. The bracket shown in the instructions for the "frame mounted" fairings is actually the one to use for "fork mounted" fairing and visa versa. 2) Regarding the confusion on the CB cable, my 2018 had the CB cable however I don't have CB. However in any case just ignore the CB cable for 2018+. The 2018+ bikes can use the wiring harness that came in the kit (69201751) and not plug into CB cable. 3) For those of you who want to have the "micro USB" cable located inside the small compartment located at the right side of fairing (designed to store your phone) so it sits beside the existing USB cable you can do the following and it worked pretty well:
1) From the front of the bike with fairing off, locate the back of the small compartment and push through the existing grommet that holds the existing USB. I pushed this through using a small flathead screwdriver working around the grommet to push it through
2) Then push the grommet further into the compartment about 2"
3) You now clearly see the hole where the grommet was. This hole is 3/4" diameter
4) Take a 1/4" diameter dremmel tool, and using the dremmel grind out a slot starting at the left of the 3/4" existing hole and grind out a slot to the left for about 3/8".
5) Now slide the existing USB wire into that slot to get it out of the way. You can now push the WHIM micro USB cable through the existing 3/4" hole. It just fits
6) Now from the rider side pull enough of the Micro USB through so it extends beyond the opening of the compartment from the rider side about 5" - 6".
7) Now back to front of bike, push new MICRO USB wire into slot and then re-insert the grommet from existing USB cable back into the 3/4" hole as it was before. Then from rider side you can bend micro wire back into compartment and close. You now have both USB cable ends located in the compartment
