New HD Wireless Interface Module install with pics
So today I pulled the trigger and bought the wireless interface module(PN:76000768) and the wireless interface module harness (PN:69201726) for my 2016 Ultra Limited Low. Also I have done a ton of research including calling and speaking to Harley directly. I got transferred around a couple times but eventually I received someone that was very savvy regarding it. So with that said let me get into what this part is and what it does. For all of you aware and just want to see the install, please feel free to skip.
Part Description:
The wireless interface module allows us to finally use a bluetooth headset with the infotainment system. It allows us to have all the functions we had with the cord plugged in. So with that, we finally will get the capability to give voice commands, intercom function, turn by turn directions, and use of the CB though the bluetooth headset we choose. Noticed I said we choose. Harley assured me that this will work with other bluetooth headsets and not just the Harley or Sena one. Now they can't promise which brands will work off the start but they said they were working to ensure all bluetooth headsets will work with it. My recommendation will be to go to the dealership and if they have a 2018 CVO, see if they will let you pair yours before you buy this part.
Install:
I was honestly amazed at how easy this install was. At first reading the directions, I will admit, I got a little confused. So I clearly over thought this, because once I took a step back it became very easy.
Going through the instructions, I noticed it wanted you to remove the gas tank and seat. I will say I did not do this. It really seemed like extra work for no reason to me. The reason it wanted you to do this, was to route the micro usb plug for updates behind the side cover. When I get to that section you will see where I put it and it truly is up to you on if you want to secure the connector the way I did, or remove the seat/tank to put it behind the side cover.
Step 1:
Remove the front fairing. Please pay attention to the bolt locations when you remove the screws. On the inner faring the top bolts are longer and so is the center windshield bolt. Now I have an Ultra Limited so I had to remove the two side lights in order to get my fearing off. Wasn't hard, just two 1/2 nuts and then unplug them. After the fairing is off, this is what you will be looking at.
You will see two connections in this picture that are open. The white one is the accessory port and the black one is the CB port. If you have a CB, go ahead and unplug it at this time. If the white port has a protective cover on it, go ahead and also remove that at this time.
Step 2:
At this point follow the directions provided by Harley on getting the Wireless Interface Module ready for installation. Harley gives you two brackets. One to install it in the fairing by the CB module and another for a location I can't remember. I chose to install mine by the CB module. Now in order to fit it in there, I did have to remove the CB module. This was very easy. One Coax connector and one screw. Once it is out, the WHIM and bracket can easily slide in, and be secured with the two screws provided with the WHIM.
That gray box on the right is the CB module.
This is what the WHIM looks like installed with the CB module installed.
Step 3:
After that, its time to start connecting the harness (the one you have to purchase separately PN: 69201726. Please read below to see if you really need to purchase this harness or if you can use the one that comes with the WHIM). This is very simple. The white connector on the harness plugs into the white accessory connector that I mentioned earlier. Now you will notice two black connectors. These both are for the CB. One plugs into the black connector I mentioned earlier on the bike and the other one plugs into the CB module connector.
Step 4:
Once that is complete, make sure you secure all the extra wiring with the zip ties provided.
Step 5:
Now it is time to route the micro USB connector. Like I said I chose not to remove the tank and the seat to run it to where the instructions said. Instead I ran it along the the main wire bundle and zip tied it. This is completely up to you. I was able to wrap the extra slack and zip tie it in the fairing. It does come with a protective cap to ensure no water/dirt gets in there. This is why I was comfortable with putting it where I did. Once all that is complete, you are good to put your fairing back on and wrap up this job. Don't forget to connect your headlight when you are putting the fairing back on. After all is secured back up, I turned the bike on and made sure all my lights and turn signals worked.
This is where I put the mini USB connector. Personally, I think it looks perfectly fine there. I made sure to turn the handle bars both directions to ensure I wasn't pulling on the cable and stressing it.
Keep in mind, after the install, you will have to take your bike to the dealer so they can flash the radio before you are able to connect your bluetooth headset. This didn't take long at all.
Now on to the last thing for information purposes. After looking at both harnesses (the one that comes with the WHIM and the one you have to purchase separately), I have come to the conclusion the one that is provided with the WHIM will work on our bikes. The wiring and all is exactly the same. The only difference between the two harnesses, is the one you have to purchase separately allows for the CB to be hooked up. If you do not have a CB, there is no need to purchase the extra cable.
Above is a picture of the harness that comes with the WHIM. Like I said, the only differance is it doesn't have the CB connection.
I hope this was informative and can be of some help. If you have any questions please let me know.

For future reference, I've had my outer fairing off numerous times (including my own WHIM install) and there is no need to remove the lights. The fairing will slip out from behind them with very little effort. You can slip a soft rag over the lights to protect the fairing paint, but I've yet to even do that and my paint is no worse for the experience.
I did remove the tank and route the USB cable to the middle of the bike as per the directions, but only because I had to do all of that to remove the Sierra extended harness for the Sena Freewire that the WHIM was replacing. I like the simple routing that you chose for your USB cable.

Regarding the cable, I checked all the wiring to the accessory port. So all colors and everything matched the same as the one I had to purchase. So I am just saying what I found out. If I didn't have a CB I would try it before I bought the cable.

Have you paired your Uclear with the new Whim module? I am fully in the Uclear camp and all my helmets are wired for the Uclear. Don't feel like starting over in the Bluetooth helmet side of things.
